Nissan unveils a new Leaf-based electric car to be mass-produced in China.http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIwkMqm3jY Strong government programs and market conditions have led to rapidly growing electric vehicle demand in China and now automakers are launching vehicles exclusive to the market.Nissan is the latest to get in on the trend with a new Leaf-based electric car.The vehicle is called the ‘Sylphy Zero Emission’ and Nissan presents it as its ‘first mass-production electric car in China.’José Muñoz, Nissan’s chief performance officer and chairman of the Management Committee for China, unveiled the vehicle at the Auto China 2018 show in Beijing today:The new Sylphy Zero Emission is the next step in our electrification strategy for China. The new Sylphy Zero Emission will be Nissan’s first mass-production electric vehicle for the China market and one of the 20 electrified models that we plan to introduce over the next five years.The Japanese automaker says that the Sylphy “inherits the LEAF’s core technologies while offering the stability and reliability of a full-size wheelbase.”



Nissan didn’t confirm the specs of the powertrain, but it claimed: “an extended drive range of 338 kilometers, according to official Chinese standards.”Nissan says that the Sylphy Zero Emission will go on sale later in 2018 and more information about the specs and pricing will be available at that time.Electrek’s Take338 kilometers on the Chinese standards is 210 miles.Considering they said that it has the same “core technologies” as the Leaf, I assumed it has the same 40 kWh battery pack and the same electric drive unit. Therefore, the EPA-rated range is likely closer to the 150 miles of the latest Leaf.We would need to see the full specs to confirm that, but it sounds likely to me.Either way, it looks like the Chinese market is going to have a lot more EV options in the next few years than the rest of the world thanks to their ZEV mandate and the fact that they have an attractive growing market for automakers.

New 2018 Nissan Leaf


Battery capacity increases by 30 % from 30 to about 39 kWh.
Not surprising, considering that if we look at the new Eaton Nissan xStorage battery capacity, the math points to 38,4 kWh. However, Nissan has always reported the total battery capacity, but I’ve been told that from now on, only the usable battery capacity would be advertised – the same way Renault does with its electric cars. If this proves to be true, it would mean that the 38,4 kWh would be usable capacity. Yet, it’s better to count with 38,4 kWh of total capacity, to not be disappointed with the unveil.

But while the vehicles may be good for the planet, some people are concerned their magnetic fields may not be good for a driver’s health.
Now a seven-country study argues that these concerns are unfounded with evidence to suggest electric cars do not generate electromagnetic fields higher than the dose recommended.

According to a report by Jim Motavalli in the New York Times, a number of hybrid owners tested their cars for electromagnetic fields using hand-held meters and were alarmed by the results.
But the latest study, led by Norway-based Sintef, argues these concerns have been blown out of proportion.
EMF levels in seven different electric cars, one hydrogen-powered car, two petrol-fuelled cars and one diesel-fuelled car were measured in the laboratory and during road tests.

In the case of petrol and diesel powered cars, exposure was measured at around 10 per cent of the exposure levels considered to be safe.
‘There is absolutely no cause for concern,’ said Kari Schjolberg-Henriksen, a physicist at Sintef.
‘The difference between this research and similar earlier work is that we have taken into account what contributes to the magnetic fields.
‘The rotation of the wheels themselves generates considerable magnetic fields, irrespective of vehicle type.’
The EU-funded research project EM Safety is the most comprehensive study yet carried out to identify different sources of magnetic fields in electric cars.

UK Is Testing Roads That Charge Electric Cars As They Drive

Imagine never having to pull over to fuel your car. This is exactly what Highways England is planning to implement for drivers of electric vehicles. Automobiles would be fitted with wireless technology and then driven on roads with special electromagnetic field generating equipment buried underneath. Trials will run for 18 months before a decision is made to move the project to public roads. This is not the first time such technology sees the light of day: in 2013, the South Korean town of Gumi switched on a 12km (7.5 miles) route that allows special buses to be charged with similar technology.
“Vehicle technologies are advancing at an ever increasing pace and we’re committed to supporting the growth of ultra-low emissions vehicles on England’s motorways and major A roads,” wrote Highways England chief highways engineer, Mike Wilson. “The off-road trials of wireless power technology will help to create a more sustainable road network for England and open up new opportunities for businesses that transport goods across the country.”

Highways England plans to test this technology over 18 months before a decision is made to move the project to public roads

Electric cables are buried under the road to generate electromagnetic fields which are caught by a coil inside the vehicle and converted into electricity

The government is already committing £500 million over the next five years to keep Britain at the forefront of this technology

Nissan Leaf Taxi passes 160,000 km and still on 1st set of brake pads & rapid charged over 1,700 times yet retains near full battery health !






A Nissan LEAF taxi in Cornwall has clocked up its 100,000th mile (160,000 km) since entering service with C&C Taxis in 2013.
‘Wizzy’ as it was named by operators at St Austell-based C&C Taxis, hit the milestone in the course of more than 25,000 pure electric paying fares and having been rapid charged over 1,700 times yet retains near full battery health and is still on its first set of brake pads.
Inspired by Wizzy’s performance, C&C Taxis now operates five further 100% electric Nissan LEAFs and an all-electric Nissan e-NV200 Combi.
Mark Richards, fleet manager at C&C Taxis, estimates that each vehicle saves the business around £8,500 per year in fuel bills and maintenance costs.
"When we speak to other taxi operators they often tell us range and battery life are the biggest factors preventing them from considering an electric taxi," he said. "Then, when we tell them Wizzy’s done 100,000 miles and still has full battery health, they’re left speechless.”
“It’s no exaggeration to say Wizzy has transformed our business. We took a gamble when we bought her but she’ll have paid for herself in just 24 months and the savings we’re now making across the fleet are phenomenal,” he added.

Spark plants fast charger - First ever presented for Sri Lanka


The center for EV charging was declared opened on Cotta Road in the capital Colombo as the first step towards making 10 percent of all vehicles on the road electricity powered by 2020, compared to 100 percent fuel driven.

“We might have to go for 100 percent green energy driven power in the future due to dwindling oil stocks in the world.

"In this context, we are planning to save 5-10 percent on electricity and save 10 percent fuel,” Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Power and Energy said.

“We want to make Sri Lanka self-sufficient in energy by producing our own fuel. We are planning to develop the Manner based gas production and coal power production in the country,”

The Minister also said the government plans to introduced, electric driven trains in the Island in coming years.

Sri Lanka new rulers reduced the taxes for electricity cars in order to encourage people to purchase them.

Currently about 51 percent of electrical energy is produced by coal and about 20 percent by diesel and furnace oil in the Island while about 20 percent of power is produce by hydro.

Tesla Almost Drove The Model S 1300km Without Touching The Wheel

When we tested the initial Autopilot features in the Model S, we were very impressed. The thing practically drives itself. Now the company is planning even more driverless functionality, revealing it almost drove the thing from Seattle to San Francisco without touching the controls.

Real-life Tony Stark and Tesla’s founder, Elon Musk, revealed on a press call today that the company has been testing its Autopilot functionality ahead of its release to the public.

He detailed how the company has been testing it between Seattle and San Francisco, saying that the testers have basically been “almost able to go without touching the controls at all”. That’s 1300km between the two: pretty goddamn impressive if you ask me.

   Tesla also promised an over-the-air software update to end the “range anxiety” some users feel when they take their Model S out for a run.

An updated satellite navigation app will warn the driver when it’s going out of range of a Supercharger and encourage them to return for some juice. It’s coming in version 6.2 of the car’s software which will launch in a few weeks.

Elon Musk said of the car that it’s now “impossible to run out unless you do so intentionally”. Those must be some warnings.

Sri Lanka’s Power Ministry to set up island-wide charging centers for electric cars
 Sri Lanka’s Power and Energy Ministry plans to set up an island-wide network of charging centres for electric cars involving private businesses and households, the ministry said in a media release.
The ministry said that it plans to introduce a special tariff between the hours of 2200 and 0400 for charging cars.
Existing fuel pumping stations, supermarkets and also households could be part of the network, the ministry said.
Acceding to JB Securities analysis of data from Sri Lanka's motor vehicle registry data said 15 electric cars were registered in January 2015 up from 4 percent a year earlier.

The statement also said that attention will also be paid to electrify railways.
